Stowell is a recognized subject matter expert in loss of control in light airplanes. He has been a panellist at two events hosted by the NTSB in Washington, DC, and worked as an expert witness for the Department of Justice Aviation, Space, and Admiralty Litigation Section.

Trent Robinson
Trent Robinson embarked on his aviation journey in 1995 at the Royal Aero Club of WA, transitioning from student to charter pilot and flight instructor. Over the years, he ascended to roles such as Grade 1 flight examiner, Chief Flying Instructor, and Chief Pilot for including operators like Attitude Aerobatics and Advanced Cockpit Flight Training. His dedication and passion for aerobatics, formation, and instrument flying, coupled with a knack for cultivating flight schools from inception, has garnered him a steadfast following, emphasizing practical training beyond conventional syllabi.
Relocating to the Top End in December 2018, Trent contributed to aeromedical retrieval services with CareFlight, piloting the King Air. Presently, he spearheads his own Part 141 flight school, Trent Robinson Aviation, based in Darwin. Additionally, he hosts the Flight Training Australia podcast, recently receiving the CASA Wings Flight Instructor of the Year Award for 2023.
Trent’s fervor for elevating flight training standards across Australia is evident through his podcast and mentorship of aspiring aviators and future instructors. His unwavering commitment to safety underscores his efforts to enhance opportunities for both private enthusiasts and commercial graduates.
Neil Schaefer
Neil is passionate about flight training standards and teaching in the aviation sector. He has helped shape and create many of the current RAAus initiatives and resources including the inaugural RAAus Flight Instructor Reference Manual, The online Flight Examiner Course, the RAAus Loss of Control series and the soon to be released updated RAAus Syllabus of Flight Training and RAAus Instructor Training syllabus.
What drives Neil to continue to engage and contribute to all the various forms of aviation he has been a part of for close to half a century? - “It’s giving back to as many as I can; the gift given to me, and sharing the knowledge, given and learned over the years of widely varied recreational and private flying”
Goals of the UPRT Workshop
Increase the skills awareness and knowledge of GA and recreational pilots (especially instructors) to counter and respond to about the hazards that cause the largest number of injuries and fatalities.
Encourage further learning and training in this interesting and safety-critical area of pilot expertise by making it accessible at ALL levels of aviation training.
Provide a pathway for GA and RAAus current and future instructors to advance toward a bench-marked level of instructor competence, especially as it relates to awareness, prevention, and recovery of LOC-I.
Find out more about UPRT
Loss of Control In-Flight (LOC-I) is by far the biggest cause of fatal accidents in aviation.
CAUTION
BEWARE
Currently, UPRT is NOT mandated or even regulated by CASA or RAAus, however ICAO and regulators world-wide have published specific guidance material.
